In the 2016-2020 period, the city’s information and technology sector is set to boost the development of software and IT services, while strengthening the application of IT in State agencies, she said during a ceremony on August 26 to mark the 71 st anniversary of the information and communications sector.

Since early this year, the city has launched online enrolment programme serving 600,000 school students and 1,997 local schools, and provided online public services at 168 wards in 12 districts, which is expected to expand to 18 communes.

Besides, Hanoi has also increased IT application in State governance and socio-economic development activities, including the management of policy beneficiaries, poor households, drug addicts, individual businesses, and investment licences.

According to a report on Vietnam ICT Index 2015 announced by the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Vietnam Association for Information Processing, Hanoi secured third position among 63 localities nationwide.

Since 2011, the municipal information technology sector’s contribution has accounted for 19 percent of the country’s total IT industry revenue.
