The Authority of Information Security (AIS) has reported that it has guided companies on how to deal with 1,234 cyberattacks to information systems that caused breakdowns in Vietnam in January, an increase of 25.6 percent over December 2022 and a fall of 10.8 percent compared with the same period last year.
Vu Ngoc Son, Chief Technology Officer of NCS, said the number of attacks in Jan 2023 was higher than the previous month because it was the Tet month, when cybercrimes increase and deliver malware to steal information and assets of individuals and institutions.
This lasted for seven days (Jan 20-26). Within one week, AIS detected and warned about 508 cyberattacks, an increase of 23 percent over the pre-Tet week and 13 percent over the same period last year.
According to AIS, attacks on information systems in Vietnam remain a burning issue year after year.
In 2022, the agency discovered, warned about and helped handle 11,213 information system attacks, including 3,930 phishing cases, 1,524 defacing cases and 5,759 malware cases
The number of cyberattacks on information systems in Vietnam in 2022 surged by 44.2 percent compared with 2021.
An AIS representative stressed that though having been warned of cyberattacks and vulnerabilities, many agencies, organizations and businesses still are not paying attention to the problems, and have not updated patches to minimize risks.
To ensure cybersecurity, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) said it will continue to strengthen supervision and screen cyberspace, compile statistics and warn of risks to mass media, so that users can prevent risks.
