French television channel France 24 got a permission to provide its English broadcast service to pay-TV companies in Viet Nam.

The Ministry of Information and Communications on September 5 granted the license to France 24, making it the first international news broadcaster to receive such license in nearly three years.

France 24 broadcasts nonstop 24 hours a day to 315 million households throughout the world in French, English and Arabic. With a network of 142 resident reporters in each country, the channel provides an overview of global news. In addition, it attracted 36.5 million of viewers each month (in 2015) and 21.5 subscribers via Facebook and Twitter (as of December 2015).

According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, in 2015, Viet Nam’s pay-TV service had 9.9 million subscribers and generated an estimated revenue of over VND9.6 trillion (US$432 million).

As of late 2015, Viet Nam housed 31 pay-TV service providers with 73 domestic channels, 40 foreign channels, and nine domestic radio channels.
