All Vietnamese citizens can now participate in spreading knowledge conveniently and effectively thanks to the “Digital Vietnamese knowledge system” project – an ambitious Wikipedia-like portal tailored for Vietnamese, which was launched in Hà Nội on January 1.

As part of the project, which was approved by the Prime Minister under Decision 677/QĐ-TTg issued on May 18, 2017, a website at https://itrithuc.vn/ has been set up, promising to provide access to a comprehensive knowledge system for all, especially Vietnamese youths, to develop cutting-edge technologies on the basis of big data, Internet of Things (IoT) platforms and artificial intelligence.
In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution’s strong impact on all fields, the project hopes to create huge opportunities for innovative start-ups in Việt Nam.
The system comprises an open database providing information and data made public by ministries, agencies, localities, businesses, organisations and individuals; an archive collecting the world’s knowledge translated into Vietnamese and Vietnamese knowledge that has been systematised for easy study and search at different levels.
Users can input questions in a Question-and-Answer column and receive answers from many sources as well as interact with different social networks and forums. In addition, the system offers an application store developed by businesses and individuals. Users can also dial a free number 1001 on Viettel, Mobiphone and Vinaphone networks to get answers to their questions.
As one of the first volunteer participants in the project, military-run group Viettel is building technological infrastructure and contributing knowledge to the system.
At the launch ceremony, representatives of ministries, Government agencies, cities, provinces, education establishments, research institutes, telecom firms, start-ups, social networks, forums and banks, and individuals committed to contributing to the project.
The Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee has also launched a campaign encouraging students to collaborate in the project, with nearly 2.5 million queries submitted to the system in just over a week. In the future, based on existing platforms, documents and data from State agencies and ministries will be updated frequently onto the project’s open database.
