Emulation movement "Building a cultural environment in press agencies" launched

The Commission for Communication and Education of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists' Association, and Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper jointly organised a ceremony to launch the emulation movement "Building a cultural environment in press agencies", in Hanoi, on June 21.

Leaders of 11 press agencies representing different sectors, types and fields of journalism nationwide signed a mutual agreement to implement the emulation movement "Building a cultural environment in press agencies".

As part of activities towards the 100th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), the event was attended by Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee (PCC)'s Secretariat; Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, head of the PCC’s Commission for Communication and Education; and Vu Duc Dam, Member of the PCC, Deputy Prime Minister.

The event also featured the presence of members of the PCC: Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the PCC Commission for Communication and Education, and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association; Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Head of the Central Commission for Propaganda and Education, Minister of Information and Communications; Do Tien Sy, General Director of the Voice of Vietnam; Le Ngoc Quang, General Director of the national television station; and Vu Viet Trang, General Director of Vietnam News Agency.

Speaking to launch the emulation movement, Standing Vice Chairman of Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) Nguyen Duc Loi stated that the press is a special component of culture. Newspaper works are the most popular cultural and spiritual products in modern society. The press is also a mirror reflecting community culture, actively promoting and contributing to the development of other types of culture.

He said that each press agency needs to be a cultural agency, each journalist should always have a sense of improving their own culture and promoting the cultural element in the creation of works. In addition, the press needs to actively promote and improve culture in its professions and fields.

At the ceremony, the VJA Standing Vice Chairman announced the basic criteria, and at the same time requested press agencies, the VJA at all levels and journalists across the country to actively respond, sign a mutual agreement, and implement the set criteria.

The movement was launched to help press agencies raise awareness and responsibility about the position and importance of culture for the development of the country as well as the development of each press agency, the values of journalistic products, and the honour and prestige of journalists to society.

With specific, clear and practical criteria, it will contribute to helping press agencies perform well the role and mission of the revolutionary press, which is to preserve, build and develop an advanced Vietnamese culture deeply imbued with national identity; promote Vietnamese cultural values and human strength; strongly arouse patriotism, national self-reliance and aspirations to develop a prosperous and happy country.

Accepting the direction of Secretary of the Party Central Committee, head of the PCC’s Commission for Communication and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia, and on behalf of journalists across the country, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the PCC Commission for Communication and Education, and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association Le Quoc Minh affirmed to try and promote the cultural environment in press agencies, determined to build each press agency to be a cultural agency, and each journalist to be a cultural journalist.
