Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung meets the delegation of Business Council

On April, 3 rd 2019, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung had a meeting with the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU, United States).

 At the meeting, the Deputy Minister introduced the legal environment, the development of IT and telecommunications in Vietnam as well as the orientation of policies in the coming time. Currently, the Government of Vietnam is trying to build an e-Government, geared towards the digital government, creating a transparent environment to serve people and businesses.

 Regarding ICT infrastructure, the Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam now had a relatively advanced ICT infrastructure system with a mobile subscriber density of 120%, the density of Internet users of 60% and nearly 40% of subscribers are using 3G and 4G broadband mobile services. The Ministry is currently trying to license 5G pilot to operators and try to provide 5G services after 2020.
 
Regarding the legal environment, the Ministry is developing policies and legal documents related to data management, data sharing, protection of personal information, etc.
 
At the same time, the Government of Vietnam is trying to improve the business environment, simplify the administrative procedures, promote electronic payment and ecosystem development.
 
Mr. Jeffrey Donald, Senior Vice President of BCIU, said the ​​BCIU delegation to Vietnam this time wished to learn about Vietnam's policies for startups and innovative ecosystems, opportunities for cooperation between Vietnamese and US businesses, to promote cooperation between the Government of Vietnam and US businesses.
 
Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung affirmed that this is a golden time for the United States and Vietnam to strengthen cooperation, especially in ICT and technology. The Deputy Minister proposed that there would be more intensive meetings between the Ministry of Information and Communications and US businesses to discuss specific cooperation opportunities in ICT.
