Vietnam - Myanmar ICT Forum

On December 21, in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, Vietnam - Myanmar ICT Forum took place under the theme "Digital Transformation in Government". Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam attended the Forum.

The Forum is the first event jointly organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and Ministry of Transport and Communications of Myanmar to implement plans in the IT Cooperation MoU between the two countries, signed in April 2018.

Speaking at the Forum, Deputy Minister Phan Tam emphasized that digital technology was changing the thinking, awareness and way people live and work. Worldwide, many Governments have optimized technology to improve their operations and people's satisfaction with public services. The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam wished to share with Myanmar experiences in building the digital government. With the participation of leading ICT companies such as Viettel, VNPT, FPT, BKAV, Mobifone, Vietnam introduced solutions that had been successfully implemented in Vietnam.
 
Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Myanmar Tha Oo informed that after four years of liberalizing the telecommunications and IT market, Myanmar had achieved remarkable results. So far Myanmar has 4 telecom networks with a coverage density of 92% of the population and 65% of the territorial area with the mobile subscriber density of 101%.
 
Deputy Minister Tha Oo is very happy that many Vietnamese ICT enterprises have invested and operated in Myanmar, also highly appreciates the operation of 3 big investment companies: Viettel's Mytel, VNPT's joint venture with Streamnet and 100% foreign-invested FPT Myanmar.
 
Myanmar continues its policy of attracting foreign investment and calling on foreign businesses and Vietnamese enterprises to invest in Myanmar, especially in the fields of software industry, digital content and electronic industry.
 
At the Forum, Viettel, VNPT, Mobifone, FPT, BKAV presented and introduced services in many areas such as transportation, education, health and network security.
 

Also at the Forum, Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and Ministry of Transport and Communications of Myanmar held a bilateral meeting to discuss ways to implement cooperation activities on information security, telecommunications and human resources. Deputy Minister Phan Tam asked Myanmar to participate in the Vietnam’s National Cyber ​​Safety Center (ISAC), invited Myanmar to attend the 5G Summit in Vietnam in 2019 and pledged to grand ICT scholarships for Myanmar students to study in Vietnam.
