Mytel is expected to make a profit in 2019.

It is the fastest mobile user growth rate in the history of Viettel, amid sluggish growth in the global telecommunications market.

In Vietnam, it took the military-run carrier more than a year to reach the 2 million mark, while it took nine months for its Halotel brand in Tanzania to achieve the same threshold.

According to Mytel General Director Nguyen Thanh Nam, such success is attributed to Viettel’s strong infrastructure, attractive offerings and understanding of the local market.

In Myanmar, Mytel was the first and only carrier to have nationwide 4G coverage immediately at launch, supported by 30,000 kilometres of optical cables which is more than half of the Southeast Asian country’s total cable length.

Mytel also boasts an extensive sales network with 50 main stores and 50,000 authorised outlets across the country, of which 70% are located in rural areas.

Mytel is planning to raise its customer base to 4 million by the end of 2018 and is scheduled to operate at a profit from 2019 onwards.

As of June 2018, Viettel’s overseas investment turned a profit in eight of the ten markets where it is present.
