The 2nd meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for PP18-2

On January 30, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) held the 2 nd meeting in preparation for the APT PP18-2. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam attended and delivered the opening speech.

The 2nd meeting of APT, hosted by Viet Nam, is the next step to discuss main issues and concerns from the member countries to develop a general proposal of the APT area. Participants included telecommunication, ICT authorities of ITU member countries in the Asia-Pacific region, international organizations, academics, regional operators, MIC’s units, telecom operators.
 
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam said, PP-18 was the ITU's highest-level meeting to formulate strategies and plans for the next phase; provide directions related to governance issues in ITU; elect the ITU Board of Directors and some positions of the governing body in the coming period.
 
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister appreciated the efforts and results of the APT Secretariat, APT Secretary-General, Team Leader for APT, etc. He also said that as one of APT's members, Vietnam was committed to working closely with other member countries to promote ICT development in the region.
 
On this occasion, Deputy Minister Phan Tam met with Mrs. Areewan Haorangsi, Secretary General of APT. He thanked for APT's support for member countries, especially developing countries, including Vietnam, and hoped to continue to receive support from APT on human resource, policy development, exchange of experts, researchers and projects in the field of ICT. Deputy Minister Phan Tam expressed his wish that APT would make positive changes in the organizational structure to improve its performance in the coming time.
