Deputy Minister Phan Tam attends the ASEAN-India Connectivity Summit

From 11-12 December 2017, the ASEAN-India Connectivity Summit was held in New Delhi, India. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam headed the Vietnamese delegation to attend the event.

Under the theme "Powering Digital and Physical Linkages for Asia in the 21st century" the summit was organized by the Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India in partnership with the Council of Indian Industries (CII) with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Information and Communications, government officials, financial institutions,…  of ASEAN and India. The summit discussed cooperation programs/projects on ASEAN-India digital connections; Connection building; Financial infrastructure; infrastructure development (aviation, maritime, energy, islands, highway system).
 
Deputy Minister Phan Tam made a speech at the opening session stressing the importance of cooperation with India to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region. In pursuance of the vision of the ASEAN Community, the Deputy Minister highlighted the effective implementation of the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 (MPAC 2025), which defined digital connectivity priorities and infrastructure between ASEAN countries and with dialogue countries. In particular, ASEAN countries have adopted the Master Plan for ICT to 2020 (AIM 2020) with main objectives: broadband infrastructure development, ICT applications, network security…..
 
From the ASEAN sectoral partner in 1992, India became ASEAN's dialogue partner in 1996, a top-tier partner in 2002 and a strategic partner in 2012. The summit is a key activity in the 25th Anniversary of ASEAN-India Cooperation, an important preparatory step for the ASEAN-India Summit, which will be held in January 2018.
