Officially awarded 4G license to Mobifone
On October, 31, in Hanoi, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan officially awarded the licenses for establishing the public telecommunications network and providing mobile telecommunications services on 4G LTE-Advanced standards for Mobifone Telecommunications Corporation.
Ministers Truong Minh Tuan assessed, Mobifone was one of the three largest operators in Vietnam maintaining a high growth rate (7%/year). Its profit before tax is 7,000 billion/year. In the period 2014-2016, Mobifone contributed to the state budget 18,028 billion VND, one of the 10 highest taxpayers of Vietnam.
According to a recent report by Brand Finance, Mobifone is an operator having impressive development and 1 of the 10 Vietnam’s brands presenting in the list of top Asian brands.
With above-mentioned achievements, Minister Truong Minh Tuan said: The 4G license was an important turning point for Mobifone to become a multi-service provider in the digital age, and opened a healthy competition period for telecom operators. However, Minister Tuan also noted that, in the future, the position of Vietnam telecom operators would be challenged. The road ahead is competitive, so telecommunications businesses need to have strong competitiveness in both domestic and international markets to maintain their positions. Mobifone needs to reach out to the world market.
To provide 4G services to meet customer requirements, Mobifone has to focus on its network management systems, billing systems, customer management and improves 4G operation, exploitation, management and supervision.
The Ministry always supports and creates conditions for Mobifone to implement its business plans. In the coming time, Mobifone and other telecommunications operators should promote IT services to support the development of smart cities in the country.
