Vietnam attends World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly WTSA-16
From October, 25 to November, 3, World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-16) organized by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) was took place in Yasmine Hammamet, Tunisia. The Vietnamese delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong attended the event.
Participating in the WTSA 2016 were 700 delegates from member countries and sectors (telecommunications technology corporations/companies, equipment manufacturers, research institutes, associations, agencies and international organizations on telecommunications, ICT standards of member countries; etc).
Based on the recommendations of the Asia - Pacific region, the representative of Vietnam (Mrs. Tran Thanh Ha, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department) was elected as Vice Chairman of the No.3 Committee on ITU-T working methods.
WTSA 2016 attracted the attention of the participants on many important issues proposed and discussed in the agenda: standards for the IoT, 5G; security; Internet issues and allocation of resources; IP address; Mobile financial services, OTT services; Narrowing gaps in standardization; Conformity and interconnectivity; etc.
Ahead of WTSA-16, on October, 24, Global Standards Symposium (GSS-16) was organized with the theme "Security, privacy and the confidence in standardization ". This is 3rd global conference organized by ITU since 2008. GSS-16 discussed ways to cooperate in building the institutional framework of security, personal security and reliability.
To prepare for participation, the Vietnam delegation researched, developed and proposed contents through preparation rounds of the Asia - Pacific. In August, 2016, the MIC collaborated with Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) organized the 4th Meeting of the APT preparing for WTSA -16 and ITU’s Regional Standardisation Forum.
During WTSA-16, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong attended the meeting of heads of delegations, the meeting of ITU Secretary-General. On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong had a meeting and working with ITU officials, Mr. Zhao Houlin - ITU Secretary -General, Mr. Cheasub Lee - Director of Telecommunication Standardization and Mr. Brahima Sanou - Director of Telecommunication Development. At these meetings, ITU leaders praised Vietnam’s achievements on telecommunications and IT as well as its active participation in ITU activities, and hoped Vietnam would continue to actively participate in and encourage businesses, research units involved in ITU’s activities. Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong confirmed Vietnam would continue to actively and positively participate in the activities of ITU in the future.
