Viet Nam be elected to ITU’s Radio Regulations Board

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a specialized agency of the United Nations in the field of telecommunications and information technology. Viet Nam is one of 193 ITU’s members. Ministry of Information and Communications is authorized to represent the Government of Vietnam participating in this organization.

The Plenipotentiary Conference is the largest and most important event of the ITU, which is held every 4 years. The Plenipotentiary Conference 2014 was held in Busan, South Korea from October, 20th to November, 10th, 2014. At the Conference, all members voted to elect ITU’s executive positions, including the Radio Regulations Board (RRB).

The RRB is the highest authority in the field of radio communication of ITU, which gives decisions and guidelines in implementing the Radio Information Regulations - be considered the international code in the field of radio. In particular, the Committee is the agency to handle disputes in rights of using frequencies and satellite orbits among countries - a sensitive issue related to the national sovereignty.

Mr. Doan Quang Hoan – Director of Authority of Radio Frequency Management (Ministry of Information and Communications) was introduced as the candidate to RRB. After over a year of campaigning in major international forums, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant units, the candidate of Viet Nam has elected and with the representatives of Japan and the United Arab Emirates became members of RRB for the period of 2015 - 2018.

This important event improved Viet Nam"s position in the world and increased its participation in executive positions in international organizations, in accordance with the policy of the Party and Government in strengthening international integration. In addition, this position also contributes significantly to the protection of the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the country, to ensure the rights and interests of Viet Nam in frequency and satellite orbits.
