MIC Web Portal upgraded to assist people with disabilities

The program “ MIC Web Portal upgrade to assist people with disabilities in accessing and using easily” was handed over between the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) and Vietnam Assistance for the Handicapped (VNAH) in Hanoi on October 20, 2011.

The MIC Web Portal upgrade is one of cooperative programs between MIC and VNAH. Earlier, MIC Web Portal, met several standards to support people with disabilities in the form of self- implementation or available functions in the program, non- compliance or partial compliance with criteria of WCAG 1.0 standards (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Version 1.0). A contract was signed on supporting MIC’s Portal upgrade to assist people with disabilities in accessing and using easily.

At present, MIC Web Portal met the WCAG 1.0 standards and 152/346 WCAG 2.0 standards were met, accounting for 40%. Some of outstanding functions were fulfilled namely, text zoom, text to speech etc. The rest of WCAG 2.0 standards will be achieved in the coming days.

MIC Web Portal, the first one of Ministries and Agencies in Vietnam, meets requirements regulated in the Circular 28/2009/TT- BTTTT on providing the application of standards, techniques to assist people with disabilities in accessing and using information and communications technologies after being upgraded.
