Vietnam International Telecommunication Conference 2010

Vietnam International Telecom Conference 2010 was held in 19- 20, May 2010 in Hanoi by Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC). Attending the conference were representatives from Ministries, Central Localities, Units under Ministries, national and international Telecom Companies. Standing Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Le Nam Thang joined and delivered a speech in the conference.

Deputy Minister Le Nam Thang highlighted outstanding telecom achievements of Vietnam in the year 2009 and 2010. Up to April of 2010, there are 140, 3 million telephone subscribers in which mobile subscribers make up of 87,2%, the density is 164,3 subscribers/ 100 citizens. Internet users is 23,6 million, equal to 27,6 %. Total of broadband subscribers is 3, 195 million, make up the density of 3, 74%. Four (04) enterprises were licensed to establish and provide 3G service network. Three in four companies launched 3G network opening development chance for data services; speed up development of brandbroad market. In 2010, Laws in Telecommunication and Frequency were passed and come into effect since 1, July marking complete step of legal document system in field of telecommunication.

Vietnam

has been building and developing the advance and modern telecommunication network infrastructure which operating effectively, safely, having coverage extensively and focusing on broadband connection and mobile information. Enterprises are gradually developing the next generation network NGN. The Government is actively expanding operation of public interest telecommunication service Fund aiming at narrow the development gap on telecommunication among areas.

The topic of this year’s conference is “realize society, connect broadband in Vietnam”. At the conference, attendees were updated latest information on development of Vietnam’s telecommunication and business opportunity in Vietnam market. Representatives from telecom operators, telecom equipment suppliers, studies and international consultant organizations such as: Orange France Telecom, Singtel Group, Axiata Group, Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics, IBM Vietnam also delivered speeches in the conference.

This is the third Vietnam international telecommunication conference. The previous conferences were held on June, 2008 and May, 2009 in Hanoi.
