On August 6, when it extended social distancing, Hanoi authorities divided the city’s areas into green, orange and red zones.

Green zones have no Covid-19 cases. All people entering or exiting the zones must make medical declarations and implement the 5K principle. Deliverymen can only deliver goods at checkpoints, and cannot enter the zones to give directly to buyers.

Do Thuy Linh in My Dinh said though she is in a green zone she still buys food and essential goods via internet.

“If I order vegetables and meat, I get them on the same day. If I order detergent, floor washing liquid or other home goods, the products will be delivered after one or two days,” she said.

“The products are delivered to officers on duties at checkpoints and the officers bring the goods to every house. I don’t have to go out of the safe zone,” she explained.

Nguyen Thi Van, a resident of the green zone at No 294 Kim Ma Alley, said instead of coming to her house, the deliverymen of Viettel Post come to the checkpoint at the entrance gate to the green zone and phone her to come and get deliveries.

“It is a bit inconvenient, but this makes me feel more secure because I don’t have to contact deliverymen,” she said.

A representative of Vietnam Post said as of August 12, the postal company had provided over 1,900 tons of essential goods, including 38 tons via Postmart e-commerce site (7,500 orders). The sales via Postmart and hotlines have increased sharply in recent days.

Vo So, another e-commerce site run by Viettel Post, also has reported a considerable increase in online shopping. The volume of goods provided to people via the site since July 24 had reached 751 tons, worth VND15.81 billion, up by 62 percent compared with the days before social distancing.

To satisfy demand from people in green zones, the two postal companies Vietnam Post and Viettel Post have launched two sales channels, via e-commerce sites, postmen, or post office’s hotlines. The products include food, foodstuff and essential household use products.

People just need to place orders on Postmart, Vo So, or contact the hotlines of the two postal companies. The deliveries are applied in accordance with green, orange and red zones.

“Our staff, when arriving in green zones, place the goods on the table, spray disinfectant, take a photo to confirm with customers via the app, then step back. Customers or officers of the checkpoints get the products and take away from the table,” Director of Viettel Post Hanoi Dam Khanh said.
