Speaking at the Summit, after reviewing the development of Vietnam’s telecommunications, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said, in the early 1990s, with the development of 2G and competition, the Vietnam mobile network had been in the top 20 in the world. 5G is coming. This is an opportunity for Vietnam's telecommunications to change its position in the world rankings and develop Vietnam ICT industry.
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) is planning to grand 5G frequencies for testing from 2019. With regard to 5G network equipment and terminals, MIC encourages and creates favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to invest in R&D.
According to the Minister, 5G technology will be a revolution of connectivity. If the 2G/3G/ 4G connect 7 billion people, 5G will connect thousands of billions of devices, transferring the entire physical world to the virtual world. The 5G network is the most important infrastructure of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution. However, for 5G, the number of BTSs will be much bigger, therefore, the sharing of infrastructure is very important to reduce costs. Minister Nguyen Manh Hung also emphasized the need to focus on attracting users, technologies and products to Vietnam. He called on experts, businesses, consultants, associations to cooperate with the MIC to timely formulate policies in accordance with the development of advanced technology in Vietnam.
At the Summit, two seminars were hold with the themes: 5G development policies and Promotion of innovation through friendly regulations and supportive ecosystems.
