ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2018 (PP-18)

From October 29 to November 16, the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2018 (PP-18) is held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Vietnamese delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam attends the event.

Participants of the PP-18 conference are more than 2500 delegates from 178 member countries, members, including ministries, state management agencies, corporations, manufacturers, institutes, associations, organizations,…in telecommunications, information technology.

At the plenary session of PP-18, Deputy Minister Phan Tam made a speech highlighting the ITU issues that needed to be prioritized, namely: (1) Supporting policy orientation for new trends, especially the 4IR ecosystem, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and cyberspace; (2) Promoting cooperation with other international organizations such as ISO and UNESCO to guide policies for interdisciplinary cooperation such as smart urbanization, digital transformation, data management; (3) Continuing training and technical assistance programs for developing countries.
 
During the PP-18 Conference, Deputy Minister Phan Tam met and worked with ITU officials. At these meetings, ITU leaders highly valued Vietnam's achievements in telecommunications and IT as well as Vietnam's active participation in ITU activities. Deputy Minister Phan Tam affirmed that Vietnam would continue to actively participate in ITU activities in the coming time, and hoped ITU would support the operation of Vietnamese enterprises in international markets, especially in Africa.
 
Deputy Minister Phan Tam also held bilateral meetings with: (1) Deputy Minister of Communications of Cuba to discuss the development of ICT networks and services; (2) the Ministry of Development, Digital Media and Information of Russia to exchange information on the experience of electronic information management and social networks; (3) General Director of ITSO to exchange information on the ITSO Strategic Plan...
