Vietnam Internet Forum in 2017

On November 27, the Vietnam Internet Forum 2017 (VIF17) officially opened in Hanoi. The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of Sweden and the Ministry of Information and Communications. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Hong Hai attended and spoke at the event.

With the theme “Digital for Good”, VIF17 seeks to provide a platform for exchanging views on how the internet can foster development in ways that are sustainable and inclusive and that provide information and opportunities.
 
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Pham Hong Hai highly appreciated the initiative and efforts of the Embassy of Sweden and other national and international organizations to organize the Forum. Over the past years, with the rapid growth of ICT in general and the Internet in particular, billions of people around the world have come together to make the Internet to be a platform for connecting people and resources. Internet has played an important role in all aspects of life. The emergence and development of the Internet, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), intelligent mobile devices have spurred the process of connecting, sharing information and knowledge of billions of people around the world.
 
Deputy Minister Pham Hong Hai said that the Government and the Ministry of Information and Communications were trying to promote the development of the Internet, digital content and application of values added on the Internet to bring convenience and efficiency to people and businesses.
 
According to Deputy Minister Pham Hong Hai, besides the benefits, the great challenges that we had faced were the negative aspects such as information security, toxic information, negative cultural and social impacts, etc. Deputy Minister Pham Hong Hai hoped that the Forum would discuss the contribution of the Internet to a creative, sustainable and open society.
 
VIF17 aims to be an annual platform where government officials, representatives from civil society and academia, business leaders, social entrepreneurs, investors, and other stakeholders come together to discuss the internet’s contribution to an open, sustainable, and innovative society.
