World Telecommunication Development Conference 2017

Attending World Telecommunication Development Conference 2017, the Vietnam delegation led by Deputy Minister Phan Tam representing the Asia Pacific region, hosted four proposals.

The WTDC-17 takes place from October 9 to 20, 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This is the biggest and most important event of ITU-D to plan the action strategy of the World Telecommunication Union in the field of information and communication for the period 2017-2021. The conference attracted the participation of some 1,000 delegates from 125 countries.
 
With the theme "ICT for Sustainable Development", this conference emphasizes the role ICT plays in the realization of sustainable development goals set by the United Nations. ITU-D is responsible for supporting developing countries, including Vietnam. At the WTDC-17, information and media leaders will adopt important documents such as Resolutions, Strategic Objectives, Development Assistance Themes, Action Plans and Priority Areas.
 
Attending the WTDC-17, the Vietnam delegation, representing the Asia Pacific region, hosted four proposals, of which the Radio Frequency Department chaired two proposed amendments: Resolution No. 09 on frequency management and Resolution 05 on enhancing the participation of developing countries in ITU activities; International Cooperation Department chaired the proposal to amend Resolution 47 on enhancing the application of ITU recommendations in developing countries; The Department of Telecommunications (MOF) is proposing to amend Resolution 48 on enhancing cooperation among telecoms regulators.
 
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Vietnam delegation held bilateral meetings and talks with the ITU Board, the leaders of the information and communication, etc.
