Vietnam suggests German strengthen training and technology transfer to the publishing industry

Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan met and talked with Chairman of the Frankfurt Book Fair (Federal Republic of Germany), Mr Juergen Boos on March, 2.

At the meeting, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan welcomed Mr. Juergen Boos and presented an overview of Vietnam’s Publishing sector. Accordingly, Vietnam now has 60 publishers owned by the State. Recently, the Publishing sector has gained significant developments: the infrastructure, technology and human resource be focused; its operational mechanism constantly be improved and all social resources be mobilized for development. Its average growth rate is 15-20% annually on the number of books, 8-10% on the number of books, and 10-15% on the printed pages. Especially, Vietnam Publishing has proactively integrated with the advanced publishing sector in the region and the world. Vietnam has become a member of the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and Asia – Pacific Publishers Association.
 
International cooperation activities in the field of publishing are implemented in line with the scale and pace of development of the national publishing industry. In particular, the sector has enhanced publishing cooperation with traditional partners such as Laos, the Russian Federation, Cuba, China ... in activities such as exchange of visits, exchange of copyrights, publishing cooperation, promotion of Vietnam’s publications at international book fairs ... Besides traditional markets, international cooperation activities have been expanding into major and potential ones, such as America, Germany, India, Japan ....
 
At the meeting, Mr. Juergen Boos, Chairman of the Frankfurt Book Fair thanked Minister Truong Minh Tuan for his time with the delegation. At the same time, he  introduced to the Frankfurt Book Fair and the participation of Vietnam. Accordingly, the Frankfurt Book Fair is the largest copyright bookfair of the world with over 7,100 offices and units from 106 countries participated. The fair will have about 4,200 events and attract more than 10,000 journalists around the world.
 
Vietnam participated in the Frankfurt International Book Fair in 2005, and from 2008 until now, Vietnam realizes the importance of participation in the Frankfurt International Book Fair as a large playground of the international publishing industry. In the new era, the technology is very important to exchange copyrights, intellectual property, Mr. Juergen Boos wished to cooperate and support Vietnam in the field of publishing, particularly on the issues of content, translation and sold of Vietnam’s books to the world...
 
On this occasion, Minister Truong Minh Tuan proposed the Frankfurt Book Fair support Vietnam in the field of training editors, publish administrators; transfer of publishing technologies; copyright transactions; promotion of Vietnam’s books; exchange of experience, etc. As planned, Vietnam will participate in Frankfurt Book Fair scheduled to take place in October, 2017.
 
Minister Truong Minh Tuan believed that the meeting would open new cooperation opportunities between the two countries in the field of information and communication in general and in the field of publishing in particular. On this occasion, he wished the Frankfurt Book Fair a great success.
