MIC awarded 4G licenses to Viettel

On November, 4, in Hanoi, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan visited, worked and awarded 4G licenses to Viettel Group.

At the ceremony, representatives of Viettel Group informed, Viettel had produced and successfully tested 4G equipment, Macro. The station has been put into pilot in Vung Tau 1 year ago. Test results showed that Viettel 4G had stable quality with features similar to those of world leading manufacturers. Under its plan, Viettel will officially put 4G equipment in use in Laos, East Timor and 3 provinces of Vietnam.

From 2018, Viettel will replace imported products by its produced ones. Viettel also starts participating in  telecom equipment manufacture. Its goals by 2020, 70% of Viettel telecommunications infrastructure will be researched, designed and manufactured by Viettel itself.

According to the plan, Viettel  4G network will have nationwide coverage and deliver 4G services in the 1st quarter of 2017 with the aim of bringing mobile broadband services to all mobile users.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan appreciated Viettel’s achievements in recent years to become one the top 40 telecommunications enterprises in the world in revenue and top 30 telecom firms in the world in the number of mobile subscribers. At the same time Viettel is also one of pioneering enterprises of Vietnam to go to international markets.
 
Minister Truong Minh Tuan also expressed his confidence to Viettel  new directions to become a manufacturer. After the deployment of 4G infrastructure, Viettel should promote content services for television, telecommunications and IT both in domestic and international markets, at the same time, ensure of information security.
