The 200-metre  book street will link Hai Ba Trung and Ly Thuong Kiet streets.

Municipal authorities are considering hanging bookshelves on street walls to help people collect books more easily and create more space for readers.
There will also be events to introduce interesting books and also talk shows on books. The funding for creating the book street and organising related events will come from the city’s budget.

Hoang Tuan Minh, a student from Hanoi National University of Education, said “We often come to Dinh Le Street to buy books now, but the place sells books only, it doesn’t host literature forums and talk shows”.

More trees will be planted on the book streets and benches will be installed. The street will have around 20 book stalls initially and operate through the week.

Nguyen Minh Khanh, Deputy Director of Hanoi’s Department of Information and Communications, said Hanoi is home to some streets where many bookstores are located for many years, including Dinh Le - Nguyen Xi.

Local authorities considered turning Dinh Le - Nguyen Xi into an official book street, however, the road was deemed too narrow and crowded with traffic, so 19/12 Street was selected.
