APT has a leading role in developing the global IT ecosystem

From August, 22 to 26, 2016, in Da Nang, the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Asia - Pacific Telecommunication Union (APT) held the 4th meeting of the APT preparatory group for the Conference on World Telecommunications Standardization (WTSA16-4) and Regional Standardization Seminar of ITU. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong attended and delivered the opening remarks.

Attending the opening ceremony were representatives from several units under MIC of Viet Nam, telecommunications and IT operators (VNPT, Viettel, Mobifone,...) and more than 120 delegates from the member countries, international and regional organizations.

"We are in the final round to prepare for WTSA-16, where objectives and tasks in the implementation of international standards would be determined for the next 4 years. Countries in Asia - Pacific account for 20% of the 193 ITU’s members. APT’s members have a leading role in the development of the global IT ecosystem. This is why the coordination of common interests and proposals in the region is very important", Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong stressed in his opening remarks.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong also said  that Asia - Pacific region has provided valuable suggestions and contributions to WTSA in recent years. APT also has achievements in harmonizing interests and promoting the exchange and cooperation in the Asia - Pacific. Vietnam, as a member of the APT, will continue to work closely with other members to achieve this goal.

The development of information technology brings many issues including: Internet of Things (IOT), IMT-2020, network security, accessibility, environment and standards, etc. Deputy Minister believed that discussions about the solutions to those problems toward regional and global interests will help finalize the joint proposal of the Asia - Pacific to WTSA-16, as well as bring efficiency contributing to the success of WTSA-16.
 
In the framework of the meeting, Mr. Masanori Kondo – APT’s Deputy Secretary had an interview with Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong on the ICT market trends in the region and in Vietnam, the issues of policy and Vietnam's ICT management, the development trends of the mobile industry, and the future of ICT in Vietnam as well as in Asia Pacific. Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong also shared the tendency of ICT users in Vietnam, Vietnam’s policies, etc.
