Local firms among most valuable ASEAN telecom brands

The UK’s brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance has announced the 20 most valuable ASEAN telecom brands in 2016, with three Vietnamese telecom brands appearing on the list.

Telkom Indonesia tops the list with a brand value of US$2.6 billion, followed by Singtel Singapore and PLDT of the Philippines.

The three Vietnamese telecom brands are MobiFone, Viettel and VinaPhone. Viettel has moved up to seventh from 17th with a brand value of US$973 million, and MobiFone to 15th from 19th holding a brand value of US$539 million. VinaPhone ranks 20th, the final position on the list with a brand value of US$282 million.
Besides, Viettel and MobiFone are also found among the five most effective ASEAN telecom brands together with major telecom brands from the Philippines and Myanmar, according to Brand Finance.
 
Enhancing brand value showed preparations of the domestic telecom firms for facing fiercer competition from international rivals.
 
According to Brand Finance Telecoms 500 Index ranking the world’s 500 most effective telecom brands, Viettel stood at 128th with 580 points, down from 606 points last year. MobiFone climbed to 169th from 206th last year while VinaPhone went down to 200th from 183rd in 2014.
 
Brand Finance made the lists of most valuable telecom brands and most effective telecom brands in ASEAN based on brand value, brand rating, and brand value change. Of these, brand value is calculated by brand strength index, customer loyalty index, and revenue, while brand strength is analyzed through marketing investment and capital.
