Opening Hanoi Book Fair 2015 with the theme "Books and Heritage"

Around 20,000 books are on display at the Hanoi Book Fair 2015 which officially opened in Hanoi on September, 29th, 2015, at the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan attended the event.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan shared, in the era of globalization, although the people could search, access information easily online or in many electronic libraries, books did not lose their value and still was an indispensable dish in the cultural life of the human spirit. Deputy Truong Minh Tuan hoped that this book fair would become an annual book festival held on the anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi capital annually. Deputy Minister said: Ministry of Information and Communications always supported, appreciated this practical activity to promote the reading culture. 

The fair themed ‘Books and Heritage’ has attracted 55 publishing houses from across the country with 167 booths. The fair offers a book exhibition area where books are being displayed in three sections. The first section features the traditions, culture and history of Thang Long-Hanoi, the construction and development of the capital city, and its cultural heritage. The second section focuses on revolutionary achievements, the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, and the campaign on the study of and adherence to President Ho Chi Minh"s moral example. Meanwhile, the third section introduces books, photos, maps and documents on Vietnam"s sovereignty over its sea and islands. 

During the week-long event, visitors also have a chance to join seminars, discussions, and book and author introductions, along with music performances, calligraphy performances and games for children.

At the event, the organising board also called for donations of books for local libraries, schools, post offices and cultural houses in poor communes in Hanoi, Ly Son Island district and Truong Sa Island district. 

The fair, hosted by the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day (October, 10th, 1954-2015), aims to promote the habit of reading among citizens, particularly the youth.
