Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung attends TELMIN 11 in Myanmar

A delegation of MIC led by Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung attended the 11th ASEAN Telecommunications and IT Ministers Meeting (TELMIN 11) which was held on 8th – 9th December 2011 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. Earlier, the ASEAN Telecommunications Seniors Official Meeting (TELSOM) had been organized on 5- 7 December, 2011.

ASEAN TELMIN is an annual meeting that aims to strengthen cooperation in the field of telecommunications and IT among ASEAN countries. Attending the TELMIN 11 were Ministerial- level delegates from 10 ASEAN countries, 4 dialogue partners namely China, Japan, Korea, India and ITU‘s first participation.

At the meeting, the Ministers issued the “Nay Pyi Taw Statement on ICT: an Engine for Growth in ASEAN” to emphasize ASEAN ICT cooperation on broadband development. The Ministers agreed to realize broadband connectivity objectives through initialization of ASEAN Broadband Corridor.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung also had a bilateral meeting with Mr. U Thein Tun, Burmese Minister of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs. During the meeting, both sides exchanged several issues on bilateral cooperation between two countries, focusing on creating favorable conditions for two nations’ IT businesses to invest and operate in their markets. Minister U Thieun Tun expressed his desire to learn experiences of Viet Nam in the management on Information and Communications sector, especially Internet management and establishment of telecommunications management agency.
