ASEAN rural connectivity conference for education and development

The ASEAN rural connectivity conference for education and development was organized on September 21 by ASEAN Secretariat, the U.S department of State and U. S Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Information and Communications of Viet Nam. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung attended and delivered the welcoming speech.

Attending the conference were U. S Ambassador to Viet Nam David Bruce Shear, representatives from ASEAN member countries’ management agencies and companies on telecommunications and information technology.

This three- day conference is one of cooperative programs between ASEAN and USAID aiming to enhance connectivity capacity in the rural area of ASEAN member countries.
The conference focused on examining the ways that rural communities of ASEAN member countries, particularly in the lower Mekong region, can benefit from improvements in access to and quality of education, healthcare and other important services of utilizing some of the latest and most groundbreaking information and communication technology innovations.

Speakers at the conference included UNESCO, UNICEF , SEAMEO, World Bank, Four Directions International, Digital Divide Institute, Certiport, Intel Asia, Microsoft, HP Asia, Cisco System, Qualcomm, Skype, Avaya Government Solution.
Speeches at conference namely, rural connectivity and the Master Plan on ASEAN connectivity, human and technology capacity building, ICT alignment with the relevant development sectors, ICT  applications of rural community e- centers: a perspective, ICT content and software application in education etc.
