SMEdx, the program supporting enterprises to carry out digital transformation, will change its approach in 2023 by forming an ecosystem of digital platforms capable of integrating, connecting and sharing data.

As a small-scale enterprise in Bac Kan province, Bac Ha Curcumin obtained an impressive growth rate of 60 percent in 2022 thanks to hi-technology used on its production line, omni-channel e-commerce and a modern customer care system.

Nhung Luy, Thien An and Ngan Son Cooperatives, also in Bac Kan, reported improvement in revenue and production expansion after they put native OCOP (one commune, one product) products with traceability on prestigious e-commerce platforms.

Dai Thanh Vinh, a small joint-stock company specializing in plastics manufacturing, has used digital platforms to support sales and accountancy management.

These are just some examples of the benefits SMEs can gain thanks to digital transformation.

However, SMEs are facing challenges in the digital environment, including investment and technology application costs.

Targeting SMEs, the SMEdx Program initiated by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) kicked off in 2021, under which SMEs can approach and choose to use excellent platforms assessed and announced by the ministry.

The common characteristic of the platforms is that they are created and provided by Vietnamese digital technology firms.

MIC reported that as of the end of 2022, SMEdx had attracted 671,469 enterprises. The total number of enterprises using the new digital platforms was 77,000, which accounted for 12 percent of the SMEs approaching the program. The average growth rate is 8 percent a month.

2023 has been declared by MIC as the year of digital data of Vietnam. MIC decided that following a successful 2022, Vietnam will emphasize data to create value for digital development thanks to data enrichment and exploitation in the next few years.

The approach to solutions and tasks will be reformed this year, with focus on data. Vietnam will initially form an integrated database to serve the measurement of the digital economy and society.

In addition to expanding support to cooperatives and households, the SMEdx program will also be reformed with an ecosystem of digital platforms to help enterprises become capable of integrating, connecting and sharing data.
