The city lacks qualified human resources in the fields of artificial intelligence

(AI), Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain, said Vy Van Viet, deputy chair of the Da Nang Software Business Association. He said that Da Nang needs to take measures to expand training, and attract students to the city to study IT and work.

Lee Jong Wook from LG Electronics Vietnam in Da Nang said the city lacks qualified workers. At present, the workers are acceptable but, in the future, when capacity increases, this will not be enough.

He said that Da Nang should establish a model with the participation of the government, schools and businesses. The city needs to have policies to lure talent because investment in infrastructure alone won’t be enough to attract high-quality human resources.

Tran Ngoc Thach, deputy director of the Da Nang Information and Communications Department, said Da Nang had 44,000 IT officers in 2021, mostly in the fields of software and digital content. It is estimated that real demand for IT officers in Da Nang is 77,000. In the 2022-2025 period, Da Nang will need at least 7,500 workers a year, and 8,000 a year in 2026-2030.

Thach said the city would develop mechanisms to attract human resources for digital transformation and have preferential policies for specialists and scientists.

It would hire specialists in digital technology from other localities, including successful specialists in other countries.

In addition, it will pilot a digital education program. Training establishments would have to reform programs, expand the education scale, and add majors in digital transformation such as cloud computing, AI, data science, Big Data and Blockchain, he said.

Da Nang’s Vice Chair Ngo Thi Kim Yen said that IT has recently become a key field of Da Nang. She said high-quality human resources, particularly in the information and communications technology area, is the most important factor for Da Nang’s sustainable development.
