Bluezone is considered the most effective technology solution for Covid-19 prevention and control in Vietnam at present.

By 5pm, May 11, 32 million downloads of Bluezone apps had been recorded, according to statistics from the Department of Informatics (Ministry of Information and Communications). The number of Bluezone downloads increased by 131,000 compared to May 10, and 1.3 million compared to April 28, the start of the current Covid-19 wave.

According to the Department of Informatics, out of a total of nearly 32 million downloads of Bluezone applications, the total number of downloaders who registered their phone numbers exceeded 20 million. These are good results for the prevention and control of epidemics in Vietnam, especially as Bluezone is currently one of the five recommended technology solutions to combat the spread of Covid-19.

Da Nang, Hai Duong, Hanoi, Quang Ninh, and Ho Chi Minh City are the top 5 provinces in the country for the highest percentage of Bluezone users of the total population.

There are 491,000 Bluezone users in Da Nang (accounting for 43.28% of the city’s population). The figure is 676,000 people (39.65%) in Hai Duong and more than 3 million people (37.74%) in Hanoi. In Quang Ninh and HCM City, the figures are 470,600 people (35.64%) and 2.8 million people (31%), respectively.

Tthe provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Dak Lak, Nghe An and Dien Bien are ranked at the bottom, with less than 14% of the total population.

Bluezone has helped health authorities track thousands of suspected cases.

As many as 17 positive cases were found thanks to Bluezone during the second outbreak in Hai Duong province in January 2021.

For Bluezone, install on a smartphone and turn on Bluetooth and all contacts are recorded. Bluezone does not require personal information. This application only saves data on the user's device, does not save it on the server, and does not collect the location data.

Bluezone only records that two people met at a time and for how long, but not the location. Bluezone users will also be anonymous thanks to the use of the ID code generated from the system.

Bluezone users will be alerted early in case of exposure to an infected or suspected Covid-19 case. However, Bluezone applications can only be effective with the participation of the whole community.

According to experts, to make Bluezone an effective tool, the proportion of people using the application must reach at least 60% of the adult population, or 50 million people in Vietnam.
