On February 20, at the headquarter of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung had a meeting with Mr. Andres Ibarra, the State Secretary in charge of modernization of Argentina.

At the meeting, the State Secretary introduced briefly about the telecommunications development plan of Argentina. Accordingly, Argentina is accelerating the process of digitalization in ministries and businesses, bringing technology, especially high-tech (robots, IoT, blockchain ...) to their management activities.

Argentina needs to develop the telecom sector, especially fixed broadband networks to bring Internet and data services to every citizen. In Argentina there are three licensed mobile service providers. Currently, only 9 million Argentinians have access to fixed broadband services and 60% of people use mobile phones with 4G connectivity. There are still many areas in remote areas of Argentina that do not even have telecommunications and Internet services.
The Argentine government targets 100% of the population will have mobile and Internet connections. The Argentine government wants to invite Vietnamese Government and businesses to invest and cooperate with Argentine businesses to promote the development of the potential Argentine market.
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said that the Government and Vietnamese telecommunications businesses were very interested in the Argentine market. Viettel Group has invested in telecommunications in Latin America including Peru and Haiti. Viettel is the third largest mobile operator and has the largest optical cable system in Peru. A few years ago, Viettel had a plan to provide telecommunications services in the Argentine market.
At the same time, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung also shared experiences on managing telecommunications market, fixed and mobile licensing, and solutions to promote mobile operators in rural and remote areas.
