At the meeting with Star Telecom, Mr. Ulaha Thonvatha, Chairman, hoped that the Acting Minister and Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam would continue to support the company in particular and Laos' telecommunication in general.
Acting Minister Nguyen Manh Hung highly appreciated operating results of the company in recent years. This is a good achievement of cooperation between the two parties, the two states of Vietnam and Laos as well as between two groups: Viettel and Lao Asia Telecom.
Star Telecom is a joint venture between Viettel and Lao Asia Telecom under the brand name Unitel. It is the leading telecommunication operator in Laos with 2.8 million customers, accounting for 52% of the market share. It has the largest network infrastructure with 6,000 2G/3G/4G stations covers 95% of the country, contributing positively to the telecommunication industry in Laos.
Acting Minister Nguyen Manh Hung hopes Star Telecom will further achieve its business production strategies to increase productivity, towards multi-service model because the telecommunications market has gradually become saturated.
On September 25th, Acting Minister Nguyen Manh Hung received and worked with McKinsey Global Strategic Consulting Company led by Mr. Rolando Balsinde, Senior Advisor. The company presented its ideas and plans for cooperation and support the Ministry of Information and Communication to implement the national digital transformation scheme.
As expected, on October 2, McKinsey will hold a meeting to promote investment in Singapore and invite MIC to send representatives to meet with regional and international corporations to exchange experiences.
The Acting Minister asked McKinsey to work closely with the Authority of Information Technology Application to implement the digital transformation pilot within the Ministry of Information and Communications, in the future with the establishment of the National Data Analysis Center.
