At the meeting, Minister Truong Minh Tuan expressed his pleasure at the strengthened, consolidated and developed relationship between Vietnam and the United States in the fields of politics, economics, culture, society, security and defense,… contributing actively to the stable and sustainable development of each country and region.
Currently, most major US IT corporations; social network, cross-border content enterprises are present and investing in Vietnam such as Intel, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Cisco, Motorola, Qualcomm, Facebook, Google, etc.
Minister Truong Minh Tuan said that the Ministry of Information and Communication has been actively striving to improve the legal framework in the field of information and communication technology to create a favorable investment environment with healthy and transparent competition, balancing interests among stakeholders as goals that Vietnam has committed in the international arena.
Minister Truong Minh Tuan said that the Government of Vietnam determined that telecom and IT were the key to creating a new development mode. They are important driving forces for the development and modernization of the country, comprehensively enhancing national competitiveness and international integration. In the ICT development strategy to 2020, the Government of Vietnam has set some important targets: building Vietnam into an advanced ICT country; building e-government; building at least 5 smart cities and training about 1 million IT engineers.
The Minister proposed some specific activities to cooperate with the United States: organize workshops, share experiences, build criteria smart urban assessment, policies for IT infrastructure development, create the foundation for the development of e-Government, support for capacity building programs for Vietnamese technical experts and finally increase connectivity and data sharing to maximize the potential of the digital economy assembly for consumers and businesses.
US Ambassador Ted Osius expressed his pleasure at the strengthening of the US-Vietnam relationship, especially in the ICT sector. The Ambassador noted that the relationship between Vietnam and the United States during the past years had seen a strong development due to the close cooperation in ICT between the two countries. In the context of the forthcoming 4th Industrial Revolution, the Ambassador believed that the cooperation in the field of ICT between Vietnam and US would continue to be promoted.
He also affirmed that the meeting with Minister Truong Minh Tuan was important to promote cooperation in the field of information and communication and solve the problems between the two sides in the past, strengthen the relationship in the future.
