Workshop on International Cyber Security Policy and Diplomacy for CLMV countries

On October 12, the workshop on International Cyber Security Policy and Diplomacy for CLMV countries was held in Hanoi. The workshop was organized by VNCERT and the ICT for Peace Foundation. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung attended and delivered the opening speech. Attending the workshop were Mrs. Wendy Matthews, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Daniel Stauffacher, President and Founder of ICT for Peace Foundation, representatives of the CERT agencies of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

In the opening speech, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung said that: ASEAN countries were now taking steps towards advancing international cooperation, such as to develop a cyber strategy for ASEAN, holding an ASEAN cyber norms workshop earlier this year, and opening up the ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity to dialogue partners last September. Cybersecurity is not a single issue that challenges a single country, hence,  we need to strengthen our collaboration to tackle these threats together. There is a need, now more than ever, to team up with our key  international partners and work together.
 
The Deputy Minister expressed his wish that participating countries would share valuable experience, information on this important global topic, including, but not limited to the norms of responsible behavior cyberspace; the global, regional and bilateral negotiation processes; and good practices in cyber security of which any country could applied in the  development of its national cybersecurity strategy.
 
At the workshop, representatives of cybersecurity agencies from four countries, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar shared information on the development of cyber security legislation and challenges that these countries were facing.
 
Representatives from ICT for Peace Foundation introduced the codes of conduct of responsible states in the network environment, in particular the development of regulatory frameworks related to these rules in ASEAN countries.
 
The workshop takes place on 12 and 13 October, 2017.
