Workshop on Spectrum Management for Mobile Broadband Wireless and IoT

On June 8, in Hanoi, the Authority of Radio Frequency Management organized the International Workshop on "Spectrum Management for Mobile Broadband Wireless and IoT”. Attending the workshop were Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan and representatives of ministrial units, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Science and Technology; national and international telecommunication enterprises, frequency management agencies of France, Laos, etc.

The workshop offers a comprehensive picture of current trends in the development of mobile broadband and IoT globally. Presented at the seminar were experts from reputable companies and organizations around the world such as the Authority of Radio Frequency Management, the French Agency for Radio Frequencies, the GSMA, representatives of 3GPP, Ericsson, Qualcomm.
 
The contents were discussed at the workshop include: Applications of 5G; Spectrum solutions for 5G; Technologies and standards; Efforts and co-ordinations for global  standard of 5G; LTE device prices; etc.
 
In Vietnam, the mobile communication has taken a new leap forward in 2017 with the deployment of 4G. The demands for ultra-high data connectivity with ultra-high data rates, the need to connect IoT with high numbers of access are increasing.
 
After a period of research, the ITU has published a 5G technology vision called IMT-2020 and is expected to adopt a recommendation on technical and operational requirements for IMT- 2020. The main topic of the workshop was the recommendations of the ITU and Vietnam's participation in the IMT-2020 including technology trends and frequency use for the IoT. The workshop is an opportunity for managers, network operators and telecommunication equipment manufacturers to exchange and share information.
 
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Information and Communication Truong Minh Tuan said that in recent years, favourable legal policies created conditions for the development of information and communication. The mobile communication market has grown strongly. Currently, the total number of mobile subscribers in Vietnam is more than 120 million and is considered one of the countries with high density of telecommunications subscribers in the world, 4G services have been licensed to 4 mobile operators. That contributed significantly to promoting the development of broadband infrastructure, facilitating the promotion of IoT.
 
The Minister emphasized that the ICT infrastructure played a special role for socio-economic development. Therefore, the Ministry of Information and Communication will continue to have effective policies to faciliate the strong development of the whole infrastructure in general, and mobile broadband infrastructure in particular.
