According to the report of the Authority of Telecommunications, the 3rd phase will change the area code of 23 provinces and cities, including: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Dong Nai, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Kon Tum, Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Vinh Long, Binh Phuoc, Long An, Tien Giang, Binh Duong, Ben Tre, Tay Ninh. The 3rd phase starts from 00h00 on June, 17, 2017. These are the provinces with the highest number of subscribers (3.07 million subscribers, equivalent to 58% of the total number of subscribers nationwide).
Previously, in the 2nd phase, the plan changed the area codes of 23 provinces and cities: Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Can, Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Bac Ninh. Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Can Tho, Hau Giang, Tra Vinh, An Giang, Kien Giang and Soc Trang.
This plan is one step in the implementation of the Telecoms Number Storage Plan effected since March 1, 2015. The changing of area codes is also in line with international practices. To ensure that telecommunication numbers are used economically and efficiently, in line with the development of the market, technology ... in each period, the adjustment of telecommunication number planning is necessary.
Some results have been achieved in the 2nd phase: Telecommunication operators have actively developed and implemented testing plans for their networks; telecommunications operators co-ordinate actively and scientifically; provinces and cities issued documents to instruct local departments, authorities, radio and television stations in dissemination of information, etc.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Phan Tam highly appreciated the efforts of the Authority of Telecommunications, telecom operators in implementing the Plan.
Deputy Minister Phan Tam directed, in the phase 3 of the Plan, the Authority of Telecommunications and the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information continued to send documents to provincial People's Committees; Press agencies, radio and television stations to propagandize and guide people to dial new area codes.
Telecommunication operators continue to enhance their care and response to customers; provide information to customers via messages, leaflets, websites, social networks, etc.
Regarding the charges after the changing to new area codes, the Deputy Minister emphasized that enterprises need to carefully review to eliminate errors.
On technical issues, the Deputy Minister assigned VNPT to continue to chair, other operators coordinate to set up plans to quickly complete the testing of their own networks and with other operators’ networks in the phase 3.
