As Chairman of the TELMIN 15, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung opened the Meeting with the summary of achieved results in 2016, highlighted some contents to be continued in the coming time to: i) Promote the development of broadband infrastructure to facilitate new technologies, applications and services; ii) Strengthen cooperation on information security and confidence building measures; iii) Give priority to narrow the gap of development and universal service; iv) Enhance connectivity, integration and trade through promoting cooperation and implement of the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity.
In 2016, Vietnam hosted and organized successfully TELSOM Officials Meeting and the Working Group on Telecommunications (JWG), responsible for the formulation and coordination of programs in the ASEAN ICT for 2016-2017 and directions for the implementation of the AIM 2020. At the meeting, Vietnam has handed over the position President to Brunei Darussalam.
With the theme "Connecting Creative Community", TELMIN 16 adopted Brunei Declaration with the contents: i) Reaffirm the important role of ICT for the overall development of the region as well as realization of the connection targets of ASEAN Innovative Community; ii) Affirm the determination of the Ministers in promoting initiatives to implement the AIM 2020; iii) Strengthen close cooperation with dialogue partners, international organizations and stakeholders in the planning and deployment of new technologies in accordance with the AIM 2020; iv) Specify priorities for initiatives to be implemented in 2017.
Also in the framework of the Meeting, the ASEAN ICT Awards was held. 2 software of Vietnam were awarded: Monkey's Junior of Early Start Co. Ltd at Startup category won the 1st prize and Customer Insights of Viettel Group in R&D category won the 3rd prize.
TELMIN ASEAN Ministerial Meeting is an annual event in the framework of cooperation in IT and Communications (ICT) in ASEAN, where ministers discuss and review cooperation regional activities and give oriented cooperation as well as initiatives to realize the ASEAN Community Vision.
