Vietnam, Japan hold information and communications policy dialogue

Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications and Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications held a policy dialogue on information technology and communications on September 15.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam noted that Vietnam and Japan elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia in 2009.

The two countries are comprehensive partners in various fields, particularly in information and communications, he said, adding that the co-operation between State management agencies and enterprises from the two countries had significantly contributed to the development of technology and information, postal services and telecommunications, and information security in Vietnam over recent times.
 
The Ministry of Information and Communications wished to update and share the experience of State management on three priority areas including developing 4G and 5G services after digital television transition, ensuring information security, and developing infrastructure for the Internet of Things.
 
For his part, Japan Deputy Minister of of Internal Affairs and Communications Jiro Akama introduced an overview of 4G and 5G services as well as information security in Japan.
 
He expressed his hope that the two sides will actively co-operate and exchange on policies related to information and communications in order to promote the comprehensive co-operation between the two ministries over the time to come.
 
Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications and Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications also signed co-operation documents in Hanoi on September 14.
 
The documents included a framework agreement on co-operation between the two ministries, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on co-operation in the field of radio frequencies, a co-operation document in the field of postal services, a consultancy contract on postal services between Vietnam Post and Japan Post and a business contract between Vietnam Post and Japan’s Hitachi Limited Company and Sumitomo Mitsui bank.
