The Viettel Group has poured US$ 50 million in the Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1) cable to be connected to the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

The Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1) is a 25,000km submarine cable from South East Asia to Europe across Egypt, connecting Hong Kong, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Oman, UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Italy and France.

The AAE-1 consortium signed the construction and maintenance agreement in Hong Kong on January 27, 2014. The AAE-1 cable construction is due to be completed in 2016.

The AAE-1 cable, worth US$820 million, is going to open a new era to promote the broadband market across Asia, Africa and Europe.

The AAE-1 will come into operation at the end of 2016, which is expected to contribute to Viettel’s international connection infrastructure and meet the strong development of the Internet in Viet Nam as well as serve for connecting with African nations.

The connection with the AAE-1 also plays a crucial role in ensuring the network safety and the national information security.
