ASEAN - Japan strengthen cooperation in cyber security

On May, 18 th , 2016, in Hanoi, Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with the Japan National Center of Incident readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC) organized the 2 nd ASEAN-Japan Information Security Working Group 2016. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung attended and delivered the opening speech.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung affirmed, this Working Group promotes the relation between ASEAN and Japan; and contributes to raise capacity of cybersecurity for all ASEAN members.
 
At the 15th ASEAN ICT Ministers Meeting in November 2015 in Da Nang, Viet Nam, the Ministers have adopted and launched new ICT Master Plan for the period 2016-2020 (AIM 2020). The ASEAN Minister have also indentified the Information Security and Assurance with a number of Initiatives, Action points and targets/projects, as one of main strategic thrusts in the AIM 2020.
 
Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung stressed, with respect to the increasingly important role of ICT in our digital economy, it is now more important that we continue to promote our close cooperation to achieve our objectives and mutual benefit. This annual activitiy is an opportunity for ASEAN and Japanese experts to share the views and exchanged ideas to promote our further collaboration and cooperation mechanism for a safer cyberspace of each country and the region.   
 
Deputy Minister hoped ASEAN and Japan experts would discuss and gained fruitful information on 3 main topics namely, the cyber exercise, Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP) and capacity building on information security.
 
The 2nd ASEAN-Japan Information Security Working Group 2016 is participated by representatives of cyber security agencies from Vietnam, Japan, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.  The workshop was organized to prepare and create specific schedules, detailed scenarios for joint cyber exercises on responses to computer incidents and cyber security between ASEAN and Japan in 2016, especially the joint exercise will be held by the end of May, 2016.
