50th ABU General Assembly opens in Ha Noi

The 50th Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Annual (ABU) General Assembly was opened in Hanoi on October 28. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended and delivered the speech. Attending the event were also leader representatives from several Ministries, Agencies.

Themed “Serving our Audience in the Digital Era” , the 50th ABU General Assembly was held from October 23-29. The event attracted 500 delegates and high-ranking leaders from 200 members including regional and international broadcasting organizations, partners and observers from 50 nations and territories in the world.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stressed that the explosive boom of information technology gives more choices for TV viewers but poses major challenges for broadcasting organisations.

The PM expected that the 50th ABU General Assembly will create a chance for policy-makers, speakers and high-ranking leaders to exchange, discuss, share knowledge and vision to propose strategic measures and specific action plans to develop the broadcasting sector.

Established in 1964 , the ABU is aiming at supporting member countries in developing broadcasting- television sector, cooperation and experience sharing between broadcasters.The ABU has more than 255 members in 63 countries and territories. In Vietnam, Voice of Vietnam and Viet Nam Television has become ABU members since 1976.
