Theme of the 40th UPU International Letter Writing Competition announced

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung hosted a meeting with the Organization Board and Board of Examiners of the 40 th UPU International Letter Writing Competition on October 5, 2010 in Ha Noi.

At the meeting, Department of International Cooperation under Ministry of Information and Communications announced the decision on establishing theOrganization Board and Board of Examiners of 40th UPU International Letter Writing Contest- Viet Nam, result of 39th UPU International Letter Writing Competition and the theme of the next year.

The theme of the 2010 competition was: Write a letter to someone to explain why it is important to talk about AIDS and to protect yourself against the disease”. According to official announcement from International UPU office, there were 2 million pupils from 60 member countries of UPU taken part in the competition.  Nguyen Thi Hieu Hien from the Tay Son Junior high school in Hai Chau district, Da Nang city was the first prize winner of the 39th UPU International Letter-Writing Competition . This is the first time Vietnam has taken first prize after 21 years of participant. The theme of 40th UPU International Letter-Writing Competition is: “Imagine you are a tree living in a forest. Write a letter to someone to explain why it is important to protect forests”. The theme coincides with international year of forest of 2011.

The implementation plan, regulations, official name of the competition’s theme and suggested outline of the 40th UPU International Letter Writing Competition were discussed and approved by Members of Organization Board at the meeting.
