Vietnam attends WRC-19 World Radiocommunication Conference

From October 27-31, 2019, the Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Hong Hai attended the first week of the WRC-19 World Radiocommunication Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). ) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

The conference took place in 4 weeks from October 27 to November 22, 2019, with 3500 participants from 193 ITU member countries, nearly 300 observers from agencies, organizations and enterprise.

WRC-19 is the largest ITU Conference with policy-making functions on the management of spectrum and satellite orbits, approvement of the World Radio Regulations, international legal documents regulating radio frequency and satellite orbit.
 
The WRC-19 Conference Agenda covers 40 topics on frequency allocation and sharing in order to improve the efficiency of using frequencies and satellite orbits for operations: mobile communications, satellites, cargo maritime, aviation, rescue information and launched a research program in the next 4 years for many radio communication operations.
 
Vietnam participated in the WRC-19 Conference with the aim of ensuring the harmonization of Vietnam's frequency use with the world’s and protecting Vietnam's interests in frequency allocation and planning. In preparation for participation at the WRC-19 Conference, Vietnam developed and sent 16 proposals to the Conference including 13 joint proposals from the Asia Pacific region (APT) and 03 private proposals.
 
During the WRC-19 Conference, Deputy Minister Pham Hong Hai met and worked with Mr. Zhao Houlin - ITU Secretary-General, updated information on the preparation of the 2020 World Telecom Exhibition in Hanoi and suggested that ITU actively coordinate in organizing the exhibition. Deputy Minister also hoped ITU would support Vietnam in sending Vietnamese officials to work for ITU.
  
In addition, Deputy Minister Pham Hong Hai also had meetings with leaders of satellite and international mobile information organizations such as GSC Global Satellite - discussing new satellite technologies, situation of used bands and orbits; GSMA Mobile Information Association - exchanging potential bands for 5G, auction experience on precious bands and turning off 2G/3G service, the ability to cooperate between the two sides; Satellite companies: Oneweb, SES, Viasat - introducing new satellite beam project, internet connection via small satellite, manufacturing satellite equipment in Vietnam, etc.
